Battery light 166 JTD

A friend has a problem on a 2002 166 2.4 JTD (150hp). When he presses the accelerator, the battery warning light turns on around at 1800rpm, then goes out on higher revs. It's off on idle.

This is really strange. Has anyone had any similar experience?

He told me that it's now on all the time and that the alternator is not charging at all. Seems like the diodes.

Got the same problem on my 156, it's a 150 EUR job to fix it as it's not easy to remove the alternator. I guess on 166 it's very similar.

Apparently you only have to remove the driveshaft to get to the alternator. 166 should have more room in front than a 156 :)

Maybe it's just the brushes on the voltage regulator which are worn down, should be replaceable without removing the alternator (on a V6 you may need to temporary remove the oil filter).

Unfortunately not. Bearing, collector (if that's the correct name) and regulator. Changed everything, works great.

I didn't know 166s had Marelli alternators

The voltage regulator in the picture is for an Bosch alternator,  some 166 at least TS have Marelli alternators.

      Hi guys,

      I'll make myself a topic here aswell. You can see my introduction topic here: http://www.squadra916.com/forums/topic/2982-nasa-from-belgium/

      So I have a Fase II GTV 1.8 TS in the color Grigio Chiaro with 150.000 kms now (bought her in 2009 with 120.000). I've already done some mods to it.

      This is how the car looked when I picked her up:

      Progress I've made so far:

      * I've replaced the driver's door because someone keyed it
      * QV Stickers
      * New Scudetto + logo (old ones were worn)
      * T-Rex exhaust tip
      * White side indicators
      * Alfa Romeo carpets (black/red)
      * Fase I black leather interior
      * New handbrake and shifter gaiters (black with creme stitching)
      * Pioneer radio/CD/MP3
      * Zender Handbrake
      * Zender Gear Knob
      * Street performance air intake chrome
      * Race grooved braking discs in the front
      * Red calipers with white Alfa Romeo stickers
      * Alfa Romeo Selespeed 17 inch rims
      * 20 mm spacers in the rear
      * Novitec 40 mm lowering springs
      * Powerflexed the rear bushes

      Plans for the future are currently: Novitec exhaust and new tires  Further suggestions for updates are always welcome  .

      This is how she looks right now:

      This pic was taken during the replacement, my car isn't that messy

      I have some interesting stuff to announce!

      The new 916 Store will be ready soon and it will be available via CafePress. All products will be handled by CafePress, except the stickers and other items which will be available through the Forum store. In the future, I would be happy if we could handle everything ourselves as it would reduce the prices.

      '916 Merchandise' is for all 916 enthusiasts, not just Squadra916 members. So, spread the word!

      Here is a sneak-peak of one of the T-Shirts that will be available for purchase.
