  5. Return of the Cup

I am told that I should be able to collect the Cup tomorrow. Everything should have been done. All I have to do then is drive it....bliss.
  6. Hi from Birmingham

That sounds like a lot of work..alabour of love more than anything.. So welcome to Squadra 916!
  7. Our Alfas

Mmm. I have been looking at eBay recently. Funny that you should mention 166s... I thought about buying one as a daily runabout, they cost very little in the UK. You get a lot of car for your money. I'm not sure that I like the front end styling, but the side and rear are wonderful...
  8. Return of the Cup

I have a buyer for the box ( I need the cash to fund the improvements to the cup) but I shall keep the engine safely stored. These cars must now be on the way to being tomorrow's classics....
  9. My V6 with quads, cup kit and blacklines

Time that I woke up! I have only just seen these pics. What a great looking car. I am impressed. The Autodelta rear panel looks really good. Does anyone know if Autodelta are functioning again? Tell us more about the car...
  10. Return of the Cup

My old GTV is now largely stripped ( this seems to have taken a long time) and the body kit is sold. I'm not sure what I should do with the excellent ( 72k miles) V6... there has to be a project there somewhere. Next week the transplant can begin... Big brakes, clutch , flywheel, lsd, exhaust system. I'm getting quite excited. I shall take the Cup up to Autodevelopments in Wolverhampton and leave it with them. It should be transformed when I get it back.
  11. Evoman's Spider 3.0 12v 1998

What a stunning car. The attention to detail shines through . It's a pity that it has to go. Charlee's dials are a work of art. I am jealous! it makes me realise just how much work I have to do before my Cup is presentable.
  12. My GTV 916 3.0L 24V

That is a really good looking car. Impressive!
  13. Introducing me and my Spider

Welcome... post some photographs of your |Spider soon!
  14. GTV CUP NO 131 (Rhd UK spec)

Sorry for the slow response... but yes, it was. It's not a bad car at all. The damage is minimal, it wants a front panel and spoiler, a new offside headlamp, indicator unit/fog lamp and various bits of trim at the front plus a new grille and badge. But, and here's the but.. it really needs painting. It has a good lacquer coat but the paint has faded in many areas and the bonnet is from another car and simply doesn't match at all. The wheels are not so bad and it has good recent tyres all round. Matching Goodyears no less. It has had a new engine quite recently. The alloy and ancillaries are very clean and tidy. But ( this is the second big but) the engine management light is on and I don't know why. It might be something and nothing - or it could cost a lot of money to put right. The interior needs serious cleaning but is quite tidy. It is a Cat C write off ( or it will be). Given its value when sorted, there is quite a lot of risk in the project, even though I have all the panels and trim to fix it. So, I'm thinking about it.... but it is way too good to let it die. It needs saving!
  15. Return of the Cup

I used Brembo discs last time, they were fine too. I have used tar-ox on race cars in the past. The reality is that this is and will always be a road car so I need reliability and durability without too much extra noise so that it can cope with slow lazy days but also be able to stand up to when I want to take it out and wring its neck!
  16. Return of the Cup

I shall ring Mtec... the front discs are £99 in the UK. They have to be worth a try.
  17. GTV project

Love the red on black trim. That looks really good.
  18. Return of the Cup

The transplant work has started. I have recycled the central locking offside solenoid and the offside door card from the GTV into the Cup. Next come the brakes- I am looking for a source of a pair of good quality cross drilled 330mm discs ( 147GTA type) for the front. Any suggestions? Clutch , flywheel and differential should be done the first week of January.... The project is under way.
  19. GTV CUP NO 131 (Rhd UK spec)

Great to see that It has found a good home... I might just be on the verge of buying a second Cup. It is in a sorry state but needs to be rescued. Damn, this is addictive!
  20. Return of the Cup

I am still trying to get settlement from my insurers. Grrrrr! I want to get started on the Cup. The plan is to take it off the road and replace the flexible brake lines with steel braided hoses, use the 330mm brake calipers and discs from the old car (they had only done about 2-300 miles). Should I get the discs cross drilled? I will use the rear dampers and radiator from the GTV as they were all pretty new. Then I have the stainless exhaust system from Alfaholics to fit plus the decat pipe. Now the GTV had a CF2 V6.. the Cup has a CF3 series engine. Will the decat pipe from the GTV fit the Cup? Does anyone know the answer ? I may have to find out the hard way.. I then have the Q2 differential to swap over and the flywheel and clutch to put in ( the clutch in the Cup is past it's best)... I hope that by Spring 2014 that the Cup will be finished and ready to use. There are lots of little details and cosmetics to sort out and I will clean and paint the suspension components as I strip things down..... photos will follow as things progress. Thanks for your encouragement. And yes, I like the Skoda too ( we have a new Octavia and a New Fabia Monte Carlo should arrive next month) but they are just great transport. An Alfa is so much more than that...
  21. Return of the Cup

Lets try that again.. this time with photos that come out the right way up!!
  22. GTV V6 - The True Value...

My much loved 3 litre GTV V6 has been damaged by fire. A couple of weeks ago I left it in my garage and when I looked at it the next day it had suffered an interior electrical fire which had started in the area of the mirror adjusting switch by the handbrake. The interior of the car is ruined and the car is a write off even though the fire damage is limited to the interior itself. It is beyond economic repair. I want to keep the salvage as the car was in great condition and has many usable parts - a newly fitted Cup kit amongst other goodies. The problem that I have is that the insurers will only value the car at £1600. It is plainly worth a lot more. It had done 72k miles and had a very good service history. It was truly immaculate throughout. I did not have a classic car policy ( the car was a 2000/2001 "V" plate car) nor did I have an agreed valuation. Most of the work that was done on the car was by the previous owner - an engineer - or by myself. Does anyone have any ideas on how to persuade the insurers of the true value of my pride and joy?
  23. GTV V6 - The True Value...

I'm not giving in to them! They will have to negotiate. I have lots of ad details and a realistic price is between £2500- £3500 in the condition my car was in. Everyone should avoid "Quote Me Happy.com"...... Happy? Ha Ha Ha. They are now going to make an interim payment and argue about the rest. Watch this space!
  24. GTV V6 - The True Value...

The insurers have now made a revised offer of circa £1900 which is still a total insult. I am amazed by the mid European values. I'm going to try to get a better valuation tomorrow. Thanks for your support guys!

I am happy with the forum as it stands. I think that it will grow with time. I like the fact that it is international...keep up the good work!
