  1. Ok, today was a productive day. I fitted the chrome rollbar, off course I had to take the hardtop off first. After that, I adjusted the hardtop for about 4 hours, now there is no wind/road noise coming in. It fits like a glove....or a hardtop.

After that I updated the Parrot. No result.....I swapped it with another Parrot, now works fine.

After that, the dials......I sent my wife away, so I had some peace and quiet. She could not hear the swearing, so win / win situation.

Luckily I had a spare unit, so I practiced on that one. The key is to wear thin rubber gloves ( no fingerprints on the dials ) use child friendly glue ( not so aggressive ) and work clean. Mark how the dials where set, before you take the unit apart. Remove the needles gently with a fork. Clean the surface before you stick on the new facias.

It is not so hard to do, the only pain where the white rings behind the dials, they kept moving all over the place. So I glued them on with 4 tiny drops of glue.

Put in the new backlights and back into the car.

  2. I realise that insuring your car works in a different way, in different countries. So this topic might not be as useful or relevant for all of us.

Here in Holland, I can only insure my car, because of its age, in a pretty basic way. That is just the way it is. Even if I want to pay more, the insurance company does not want to accept.

What to do with all de modifications we do to our cars? If my car burns down tomorrow, I only get 2300 euro's. A ridiculous low amount of money. What I can do, is ask an independent surveyor to value the car in it's current condition. He will make up a report. But, this does not mean the value paid by the insurance company goes up. It is only a way to dispute the money paid out by the insurance company.

What else? Well, actually I was told that keeping a record of your modifications on a forum, can help you. It works as a sort of logbook of all the work done.

The problem, at least over here, is that Alfa Romeo's are valued very low. A classic car insurance is also not an option. Some company's offer a youngtimers insurance, but if you read the smallprint, it is only slightly better then the basic insurance, but at a heavy premium price.

A tip to all, keep all invoices. Keep a logbook. Even if you buy parts, from forum members or online auction sites, keep the postal delivery papers. I know this sounds silly, but it helps you build your claim case of an insurance write off.

I know one of our fellow forum members is in a dispute with his insurance company over the value of his car. You might think this is to much work, but 10 small purchases of 100 euro/pound or yen also add up to 1000 euro/pound or yen.

If you get an appraisal from a surveyor, revise it every now and then. Because with the most of us, the modifications are never ending.

If you have any suggestions, feel free to comment.

  3. Why are you going to sell the spider?

What are you looking for instead?

Sorry for my 2 blunt questions. .

I bought this car to break it for parts. But I fell in love with it. Then I had a vision, collected parts from everywhere and built myself a Spider that I like. I had fun doing it. I have another Spider that I will start rebuilding next year. Or the year after. The cycle starts over again, source parts and build myself another cool Spider.

Now I have a 75 V6. I like to put some more detail into that. Off course my wallet is not so big that I can do all at once. So this Spider will be up for sale.

  4. Today I polished the car, and off course a little drive. I clayed the car and then buffed it several times. The paint looks so fresh. I did see dark clouds rolling in, so I buffed like a madman.

The result is worth the while.

I am now searching for storage till March. Then the car will go up for sale. The day this car leaves, I will cry.
