Alfa GTV CARBONara

222 posts in this topic

Hi all

I'm introducing in this thread my race GTV wich I build as far as I (IT Guy) can by my self.

As I work on it for quite some years I wont post all the details since beginning here. If you want to see details, just ask or do a quick search on its Facebook page facebook.com/gtv3l

Few informations:

Hood and bodywork is gfk

Extra wide front and rear (295) Yokohama semislicks

No A/C and no fan inside

all useless stuff is removed ( even radio and so on)

The engine is for the moment more or less stock , just a few improvements (because of huge costs of testing to get this for the street in our country) ( but the f430 TB ist allready in my garage )

At the moment im working on a new highflow stainless steal cat and of course further weightreduction (like carbon dashboard, lexan windows, carbon doors...)

important to know, this is a street legal track car :) this makes all a bit more difficult.

I'm interested to hear if you like it even if it has just a few similarities with the original model?

So here relatively new pictures:

Hi Dani! :)

Great to see you here on Squadra, welcome! I do like your project even if I prefere more understated style when Alfas are in question! ;) Of course, you built this as a track car and as such I think it's really great. I love the cabin feel and the brutal outside styling. What I don't fancy is that you left out Alfa badges and modifed the bonnet in such a way to remove the legendary scudetto. Every Alfa should be proud of its heritage.

If I am correct, a former iteration of your car was in Martini Racing colors? I absolutely loved it! That was really great and for me - the best version by far! Why you have choosed to respray it? Just got bored?

And please - keep us up to date with your progress on this GTV project! :)

Hello and from me..!

Firstly, thank you for making this thread, after my request! Above all, it's polite! :)

Got to tell you man, i am in love with your car!

Especially with the bodywork on the rear arches and the interior!

Regarding details, i reckon this is a Ph1 3.0 with cabled-throttle, correct?

Really interesting what you have done / will do for weight reduction. How many kilos have you removed till now?

These 6.3kg seats are custom maded or are retail available?

Will continue reading your fb page and hope to talk through here too!

Have a nice day! :)

Ps: Exhaust sound..! Yep, now we are talking!

Ps2: Details for the roll-cage, please!!! :P

@Paso

the thing with the scudetto is, I bought this hood from the bar (translated phrase from german, I dont know if this makes sense in englisch ^^') and they obviously thought it should be removed. I thought about making a new scudetto in the front, but never came to a good design. but maybe some day :) and maybe I paint it someday in red, we will see :) but for the moment I like the color and I focus to get the car on track next year.

But what you dont see on the pictures is, the alfa snake which I putted on the trunk and the huge Alfa Romeo Logo on the top of the wing. :)

I liked the Martini design too, it was very unique. But someday I asked myself why not ask if they want to sponsor my expensive built (of course I didnt expect anything). So I asked martini. They told me I can be happy if they dont get me in charge for using their logo without asking. Thats why Martini died for me.

At this time I rented a little garage and launched my own label "Röllin Racing Garage" (www.roellin.tk) Now I'm advertising just for my label, sponsors and parts manufactuer :)

@DesameDesam

eThank you I'm glad to hear that you like it :)

It is a phase 2 from 98'.

I sould be around 1250 Kg according to my calculation since last mesurement ( starting from 1500)

So 250 kilos are removed and I see still a lot of weight in there. Target is at least under 1200, but I hope to go under 1100kg. A question of the price.

This winter I will make a carbon roof and dasboard. and I search for someone who car produce doors and maybe trunk.

with the doors also lexan windows with a little window in it, so I can remove also the left window lift parts.

After this its time for more power and finally a diff.

The seats are original sparcos from daemon tweaks (england)

I have tons of pictures about the roll cage if you need ( which I of course welded in by myself) :)  what do you want to know about it?

Its from OMP

I love the RS-style door cards! Are they just flat sheets of aluminium or wood, or are the shapes complicated on the back! I want to build my own at some point so any advice would be great!

These are flat exactly.

Its some kind of flexible plastic plates (2mm thick) from the DIY market. You can form this material easily with a heat gun or cut it with a knife.

In my case I've putted the original panels on this plate and marked the form to cut it later with a knife.

I finished that with carbon foil and stickers. The door handles you could buy from sparco on ebay f.e.   I made mine myself.

I guess its like 300g per side. Around the same weight as real carbon would be.

Because I dont need the stability here I choosed the more economical solution.

Dan,

thank you again for the detailed replies of yours!

In the beggining, the air vents confused me, but after seeing photos from fb, i understood it was a Ph2..!

What really triggers me, is that i see that you made many smart choices, while keeping good balance between cost  and "what you got".

Got a million questions to ask, cause at the moment i stripped down my sportivas' interior to fix clima motors, re-installed sound-proof materials (they weren't any, courtesy of the previous-way-too-fuking-stupid owner), replace all broken-stratched-paid-the-fairyman trims & bits etc etc...

But as i see it now, a great dilemma have occured... Shall i do it? I don't mind having a "race-prepped" bella for everyday use... In fact, regarding handling, my upgrades are more track-oriented than everyday usage. Still, i am using her everyday (call me idiot-nut-etc etc, my wife already do that! :P )

Above all, an additional fun-event occured...!  I got a brand-new GT3071R with GTX "heart"(how is it called in English, the exhaust-fan-shaft-air-fan thing?) for a 2.0 16v TS project that i plan to make for my fully-track-oriented 75. Accidentaly, i got my self looking in one moment the turbo and the other moment the busso. And vice-cersa... For many minutes... :) Anyway, will see!

So, i started to make plans and saw in your bella, every thing that i thought for mine..!

Firstly, roll-cage! Tell me everything about it. Its bolt-on right? Why not the welded-on type? Cost-related manner only? Will pm you my email to sent any photos!

Regarding brakes. Saw 330 installed. Have you seen any brake-fading? If yes, thoughts on solutions?

Thank you in advance and keep up the good work..!

I think racecars are a attitude towards life (google translate, I hope it makes sense^^). Thats why I got Sparcos even in my VW T4 (parts transporter for my gtv of course)

You are more save in your car with the roll cage ;) this should be enough to mount it :)

The 330er torax brakes are working perfectly, I got also those steel flex braking pipes.

In comparison with my 156er (2.5l supercharged btw.) the brakes are phenomenal better.

My rollcage is bolt on and 'just' screwed right, I just welded the to plate. This is needed to hold it road legal. But this winter I will make some additional pipes under the dash to get the car even more stiff.

And on the japan page Orque I saw some more bars wich I will copy. Because our Tipo 2 front axle needs some improvements for the track :).

Btw. on youtube I saw a guy in a 156er 2l ts with Turbo witch (in addition to the description) 1000ps. Could be a fun project.

Thanks a lot for replying! How did you solve the problem of opening the door from the inside? I can see straps for closing the door, but how about opening it? :)

The Door opener is hidden behind the roll cage. Passengers are allways searching ^^

In the attachement I add a old picture on which you can see it. (Unfortunately I made holes for these speakers :'( )

Changed a lot since then in 2012-13

I even changed the alloy pedals to carbon ones :)

Do you mean 'over the counter'? Interesting if so, because I'd like to know from where. It's fibre glass, yes?

I finally recieved my stainless steel sportscat :)

Hint: its a euro5 200cells kat, that means have much better emissions than with the original cf2 cat, even when I change to very agressive camshafts :)

the equal lenght pipes are in. They needed a lot of change until they fitted. but unfortunately I have to rebuild a complete new 4 point strut as the one from Ultra Racing doesen't fit anymore.

on the pictures you see how urgently it was to change these pipes :)

I have redone the lower part unter the radiator. Beginning from around 1.5kg to the allready optimized metal part 958g (red one on the picture) finally to the basalt fiber one: 272g.

The GTV is getting faster every day :)

The lightweight project is going further.

In the last days I cutted out over 10kg unneeded metal and built a new basalt fiber dashboard which is now 2.134kg insted of 9kg.

The three holes on the back of the dash are for the also improved ventilation (highflow computer fans) and the center console I replaced trough a slot for my big but of course light tablet.

On the tablet I have a laptimer, and a console for my megasquirt, which is allready ordered :)

How are those basalt parts made? Is it in a some kind of mold? Is it a DIY job? Where to get needed material?

the basalt fiber I bought from ebay. (you could also buy carbon fiber insted, but basalt is a lot cheaper to lern )

You build the parts exactly in the same way as carbon fiber. With a mold an vacuum. But for the dasboard I had not big enough bags for vacuum, so I did it with weights.

f.E. http://www.ebay.ch/itm/151395472573?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

One of my next projects ist to get rid of the heavy roof. and rebuild it with basalt. I calculated the weight of the roof around 11kgs. Seams worthwile.

And for your question , it is a diy job yes. but needs a lot of work and time. And for the first time better try little parts as I did before. This saves you time an d money^^

The dash tooked me around a week. but I'm still in the learning process. I think the roof could be done in one weekend.
