My new performance car

44 posts in this topic

V6 TI DTM great race car  !

But on this car is based 155 GTA  ;) .

On car was changed engine oil with Motul Sport 5w-50 ester oil and coolant Bardahl Type C (blue) both as on my GTV TB. And also fuel filter. Idle control valve (ICV) was cleaned. Will try to connect car's ECU with one specific software for Magneti Marelli 16V ECUs - Startrek -> http://www.nailed-barnacle.co.uk/coupe/startrek/startrek.html .

No success with attempts to connect to this car's ECU also  :(. The software is showed to be proven with this exact ECU, but not for my car ... at least for now. Look like I don't have luck with ECU diagnostic of my cars (try the GTV with 3 programs).

Some good work have been done these days. Balance shafts belt was deleted and shaft was locked , belts and pulleys was changed, transmission oil Motul 300 Gear (4 liters  ), spark plugs Denso W22EPB (I go for one index colder plugs than originally specified, because I plan to use Squadra chip, which will give more boost), Beru ignition leads, 2x Magneti Marelli ignition coils and making 2 threads for bolts :D.

post-368-0-69396200-1436606509_thumb.jpg

There result of all this work was, that the engine runs much quiet and also better :) . The main reason for that is from removing balance shaft belt and replacing belts and pulley, one of the pulleys was original one. Previously the engine whines loudly, now it is very quiet and the main noise come from exhaust ^_^. My mechanic sad that he is surprised how quiet the engine become, he have expected improvement, but not to this level <_< .

Soon will post some much much more interesting purchase for this car  :smile23: .

The ECU of the car is IAW 4W6 (of group of P8 ECUs as Fiat Coupe 16VT,Delta Integrale 16V, Escort Cosworth). I know this software and here is a link to their site -> IAW Scan2. As can be seen this specific ECU is not listed as supported on their site, but have read that some guys try with selecting other ECUs and see some things, some of them look correct, some no  . The ECU which they select in the program is IAW-6F/16F SPI :hmm: . One guy comment that the data is not interpreted right and he suggest to be try with:

-IAW-8F MPI (pre PHASE-2) - there is 3 phases of Q4 models, the last one (mine is such) is with engine immobilizer

-IAW-04K.P8 MPI

So in short this software can be tried, but it is not something that can fully trust in my opinion.

KUNEV at the IAWscan2 page you are linking to.

@ Recently also support for the IAW-04K (P8) and IAW-1G7 have been introduced. ;)

Yes, I note P8 in brackets, but this is different ECU. Found some mixed comments for this software and 155 Q4 and as far as I remember not one that fully approve it working.

As I have mentioned in one of my previous post, here is more interesting purchase that I made  B)

post-368-0-18854700-1440341094_thumb.jpgpost-368-0-34186900-1440341113_thumb.jpgpost-368-0-07950100-1440341138_thumb.jpgpost-368-0-98430300-1440341154_thumb.jpg

These are Brembo 17Z monoblock calipers used on Touareg and Cayenne V6  :happy0045:  (these exact are from Touareg I think, because Porsche paint calipers in some bright color and put Porsche on them of course ;) ). Bottle is 1.5l and is just for comparison on pictures  :D. This is the exact model, that I wanted first for the GTV ( but found Lancer Evo 9 calipers in very good condition and good price then) and looked for them from some time for this car :). They are originally used with 330x32mm discs and for 17" wheels (and hence 17Z in the model name) and that was the main reason that I wanted this model - it is biggest caliper originally used with 17" that I know. They are rarer than 18Z model, which is originally used with 350x34mm discs and 18" and bigger wheels. But size wise they are very similar. Pads for 17Z calipers are a little "lower", but pads are interchangeable between models and have seen upgrades with 18Z calipers to use 17Z pads, because of better swept area for specific setup. Pistons on 17Z calipers are bigger than 18Z and from that some say that they are stronger, but no maybe not so good for upgrade on car with small original brakes/calipers.

P.S. I have one folder with pictures of brake upgrades with 17Z calipers, but no alfas among them, so maybe will not be appropriate :) .

And another purchase, that I'm very happy with it  B). Italian car deserve Italian wheels to be complete Italian design :).

OZ Ultraleggera 17" 7J 4x100 ET37

Yes used, not new as wealthy Scandinavians here   :D;):).

Used or not used means nothing they still look good and it is the lower unsprung weight of those lightweight rims that are important/favorably. :)

They have marks here and there, so are not like new ;).

These are my personal favorite for wheels, because of design and weight and want another set for the GTV :).

Yes, lower unsprung weight have many advantages, but in my case the unsprung weight will increase from current point - much bigger brake setup and bigger tyres (from 215/40-R16 to 215/40-R17). For example brake disc weight will increase with 4.2kg for each disc. But this doesn't change my mind, I seek for overall look and package :).

I also bought wheels spigot rings for perfect fit.

I have to find locking wobble wheel bolt to secure a little bit these wheels.

At least the lighter rims compensate a little against the increase in weight with new brakes. :)

If you can find someone that sell wobble locking bolts that are longer than 32 mm please do let us know.

Most likely my bolts will be custom order from one Bulgarian company for which I read that they made locking wobble bolts. My bolts maybe also will have to be long ones. So probably something can be made for your case ;).

I was thinking where to post my last purchase, because initial plan is it to not be for neither of them, but as it is related to some recent update for 155 will post it here. I "accidentally" bought these.

23122015372.thumb.jpg.4c6dbe81098c6bbccc23122015373.thumb.jpg.b54234606b7c0721de23122015374.thumb.jpg.ac05ddafb5e1425fe6
These are Brembo 18Z 6 piston monoblock brake calipers. I was mentioned this model in my post for 17Z calipers, which will be installed on 155 (a little above in this topic). As can be seen from the name - these are designed for 18" wheels and 17Z for 17". Both models are very similar in design and size, but this is lets say "bigger brother" of 17Z. This model was used on earlier Audi Q7, VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne (for example earlier Cayenne Turbo use such calipers) with 350x34mm discs. Total piston area of this model is smaller than 17Z, so concerning brake master cylinder, they are better suited for upgrade - 30/34/38 (for 18Z) vs 34/36/38 (for 17Z). Also pads on this model are a little bigger than on 17Z model, more specifically they are higher (on close picture of pads, cigarette lighter is just for comparison and it is aligned with other end of the pad). But fortunately pads are interchangeable and 17Z pads can be used on 18Z calipers (for upgrade with smaller discs) and some make it like that (in VAG community).

Unfortunately 17Z model is in my hometown and not here around me and because of that I can not directly compare them visually for now, but such comparison will be made :). From a lot of searching I have found just one place, where these calipers was compared side by side.

My plan is both models to be stripped and painted. And for this model maybe to be made adapters for 330x32mm (something that should fit in 17") discs on my GTV and/or 155. Then maybe will sell them, will see :).

I know that in alfa community by far the most popular calipers for upgrade are these from 166,Kappa - relatively cheap and not so hard to find. But I prefer the other approach - non standard one and with maximum impact :D. And at the end of this post one not so good and bright picture of this caliper inside Ultraleggera 17" just for visual test B)

My cars are in "winter sleep", but I do not rest :).

An another accidental purchase, that I make, but just can not refuse to make it at that price <_< .

It may be related with this car in the future, so put it in this topic ... but may also be used with other car ...

And here it is taa daa :)

13022016386.thumb.jpg.b5f7417d17e37f312b

Another set of OZ wheels, but this time new ones, in the boxes B) ... and they are different model.

OZ Racing Alleggerita HLT 16" 7J 4x100 ET37 Titanium Tech

13022016388.thumb.jpg.0b0ce6046372340026

And this is really cool! Each wheel is inspected and weighted by OZ's technology manager Sergio and also a document is signed by him :). And I think that Alleggerita HLT is the only OZ's wheel, that have "lightness certificate". Prize for their lightest wheel and nice attitude to their fine product :).

13022016389.thumb.jpg.163130e326cbb18b2413022016390.thumb.jpg.3de5c46cbd1f98dedf

I'm note sure, but think that maybe this is lightest wheel model with TUV certificate.

And a little more info about HLT technology from OZ's site:
"High Light Technology.

Manufacturing technology to improve lightweight characteristics to the wheel, with an even higher performance driving dynamics and a structural integrity to surpass the most stringent safety tests.

The innovation and excellence found in the HLT production process is the direct result of experience of supply to both F1 from which OZ has developed an inimitable knowledge resource at the pinnacle of competitive motorsport. The HLT exclusive manufacturing process achieves mechanical features comparable to those of a forged wheel both in terms of weight reduction and structural strength."

Some news here :). This summer the upgrade of the brakes was accomplished and at the same time OZ Ultraleggera 17" wheels was installed with 4 new Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 215/40-17 tyres :). Here is some pictures:

14231226_1143047449103617_924711222010595744_o.jpg02092016424.jpg02092016425.jpg

I haven't put OZ center caps, but have them all and also ordered 4 new.

In short a lot of custom modifications, special parts and time was involved in this upgrade. Brembo 17Z calipers was used with 330x32mm EBC standard discs and EBC yellowstuff pads.

Unfortunately I did not succeed to find long wobble, locking bolts ... I have arranged a custom order for some to one local company, but after some time of waiting to be made was known that they are not as long as requested and currently can not make such bolts.

Now is time for bedding in of rotors and pads :) .

Ultraleggera

Looking good Kunev. Nice color on the 155. Seem like a serious project to fit the brakes. I guess you can tell me all about it when we meet next time. :)

Nice! I would have put the Alfa Romeo text on there instead of Brembo tho. There isn't much space between the caliper and the rim, is there? Did you calculate the weight in comparison to Alfa 166 4-pot Brembos?

A friend of mine also suggest me to put Alfa script, but I prefer to use the real manufacturer name on them :) . And also they are not used on any alfa originally.

It is really a close fit to the wheels! There is enough space between calipers and spokes of the wheels, but as spacer need to be hubcentric can not be used a little smaller than this. When balance weight for the wheels have to be put also calipers have to be taken into consideration . But that is mostly because the calipers are huge and lug mounted and just can not go more internally radially if you understand me. So now they are a little bit outside the disc and a little bigger than 330mm disc will be better match. Here is some pictures during the process ... with 3 bolts on the wheel :D

0-02-01-36cb5b170542e13738151b0dc23cc8912fdb77d753cada37244529d3848d8e1f_full.jpg0-02-01-75b107cff008e4d3efbb0fad41d4a0513836bcf19360ccf58950585107a71bd7_full.jpg0-02-01-4968dee0781e71bce2b4f32bbd719436d08f22b261f44b79884aaaa8241ccb4b_full.jpg0-02-01-545c1e12a8f9d77436062126685d517cc9e96070f2f8bfd36dd14d7870543e05_full.jpg

I really haven't consider 166 brembo calipers as upgrade for this car and also for the GTV as I wanted something not so standard and more special for both. And that was accomplished for both :).

I haven't compared their weight related to 166 brembo calipers as I haven't own 166 calipers and also recently try to find some info about that, but can not find anything :(. Also during this research I found some conflicting information about brembo calipers on later 147/156 GTA, GT 3.2 (330x32 discs) . Here is the information, that I found:

17Z without pads ...................................................... 10lbs  4.5 kg
17Z with pads ................................................................... 6.3 kg

18Z with pads ................................................................... 6.5 kg

Alfa later 147/156 GTA,GT 3.2 (for 330x32mm discs):
   -with pads ..................................................................... 5.0 kg
   -with pads etc.(ePER ?) .................................................... 6.39 kg

   -without pads ................................................................. 2.8 kg \
-with pads ..................................................................... 4 kg     > same source
-with pads and bracket .................................................... 4.6 kg /
Alfa first 147/156 GTA, GTV 3.0/3.2 (for 305x28mm discs):
   -with pads ..................................................................... 3.8 kg  \
-with pads and pins ......................................................... 4.4 kg  / from same guy in different topics

Stock Alfa 156:
-with pad holder and pads ................................................ 6.6 kg - same source as above three

So especially for the brembo from later GTAs/GT 3.2 the truth is not clear from above information. Will try to find some info about 166 brembo, but I already searched a lot. If someone have such information, have them or know a guy that have them installed will be good to share with us:) .

One old, but interesting purchase, that I haven't show here.

Intake manifold with fuel rail from Lancia Kappa 16V turbo:

24042016396.jpg

This is known as the best standard intake manifold for Lampredi's 2.0 16V turbo engine and very sought-after. It benefit from higher flow, runners, that shot straight into combustion chamber and easier access to injectors and fuel rail. For now I don't plan to install it and also fitting it in Q4 engine bay, where there isn't much space, is not an easy task. But its good to have it available :).

And the next upgrade to the car is made this spring as was planed from some time - suspension. The car was with red Eiback Pro-Kit springs, which are -35mm I think (or -30mm...) and not available anymore and old oily standard black dampers. When I change to bigger wheel and tyres (from 215/40-R16 to 215/40-R17) rear tyres start to rub inside of fenders on unevenness, without any passenger at the back and the tyres are much closer to the inside of the car (from wheels 7.5J ET35 and 20mm spacers at the rear to 7J ET37 and 12mm spacers now).

Problem regarding suspension for this model is not much of an options available and after some thought I decide to try with this kit

18042017479.thumb.jpg.4e33d474c9415c8e66a6ab5dc42a60b3.jpg1689_0.jpg.6176897bd11bb1b8515a33f2e64deaba.jpg

H&R monotube coilovers for Alfa Romeo 155 2.5 V6 from shop.alfisti.net .

This is essentyally Bilstein dampers produced for H&Rand H&R matched springs and not adjustment of stiffness front and rear. Rear dampers are shorter, because of -40mm lowering at the back. I did not find any opinion at all for using of this kit on Q4, but from what I have read suspension between Q4 and V6 have to fit on other also. So there was some uncertainties with this purchase ... :D. The Q4 is heavier car in general and most of this difference is at the back I think. H&R springs are generally very stiff from what I have heard and read so was thinking, that this may work on this car.

During install was seen that everything fit on the car, but ... at the rear there is big problem. When the car was put on the ground the rear just "sit on the tyres"! Unfortunately I didn't see it on real or photo, but was explained to me with associations for old citroens or citroen with blown spheres, not seen top part of the tyre from side... So at the back was used old Eibach springs at new dampers from that kit. At the front fit just fine with coilovers set to middle position as from the box. Here is one picture how is now on the back

08052017480.thumb.jpg.c3d90b78cf13fc9de8651ba7d64aa9b5.jpg

My impression is that there is definitely improvement from before, haven't heard rubbing on rear fenders (without some passenger at the back) and even more comfort from before. Till now my impressions are generally from normal driving in city and highway, so haven't try it with spirited driving on corners yet ... but soon may have impressions from some really interesting places B). But with "big" (for this model!) wheels and very low profile tyres (215/40-17, this size is regarded as max on 155) and stiff, short move suspension all imperfections of the road are feel and roads here are not perfect at all unfortunately.

Will post some pictures of the car soon :) .
